Life in the 70s

What have you learned about the time period in the book "That Was Then, This is Now"? Do you think the world is better or worse off now?

What took place in the 70s? The first public computer came out. The computer was the size of briefcase, with a screen as big as your palm of your hand. African Americans were getting power as a people because of what happened in the 60s. The 70s weren't too bad. The life was good but not great.

Hey Michael, can you explain how all of this information relates to the book? I'm interested in what you wrote about race. Does the author of the book comment on race and African Americans during the 1970s? - Caceres

Select ONE of the following topics to write about in our AMS Blog. Draft your response below.

* Explain why you think Bryon took the blame for cutting off Angela’s hair. Then discuss a time when you took the blame for something you did not do.

2. The main character wants to be your PenPal to talk about everything he has been going through and get advice from you. Write them a letter discussing the conflicts he is going through, then write about how you would deal with the situation if it were you. Make the main character feel good by telling them about their strengths and what they could work on.

3. Pretend you are the author of the book and you are on Oprah! She asks you, “Do you think people are basically good-hearted or basically selfish?” Based on the characters in this novel, what would you answer?

4. This book takes place in the 1970s. What have you learned about the time period? Do you think the world is better or worse off now?
